Bibliography on CFS from CDC's Website [Research: New Knowledge and Publications]

http://www.cdc.gov/cfs/cfsresearch.htm

U.S. CDC CFS Website – Bibliography
(Accessed 11 November 2006)

Note: This is the closest thing to a bibliography I could find on the CDC's website for CFS.
The names of William Reeves, Suzanne Vernon, other CDC employees (that I know of) and the Emory University CDC Collaborative Site are in boldface so that it is clear each of these articles is in-house (with the exception of one by Sorenson, one by Bleijenberg, one by Natelson, and one by Lloyd and Hickie - 4 out of a total of 86.)

This is a compendium of what CDC has done. It is emphatically not an impartial bibliography of the most important works on CFS (or M.E.). There is no such bibliography on the CDC website, or in the CFS "Toolkit" for professionals professionals. Much of this work is dependent upon the CDC's Wichita Surveillance Study, which Science Magazine recently described as "problematical". - Mary Schweitzer

"This is the most current chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) research case definition that has been published in the peer reviewed literature. A decision was made to revise the 1988 case definition of CFS because it failed to distinguish cases of CFS from other forms of chronic fatigue. The complexities of the condition and its inherent similarity to other forms of prolonged fatigue made it desirable to devise guidelines that would facilitate comparative studies, i.e. studies aimed at discerning any features of CFS that serve to distinguish it from other forms of chronic fatigue. The authors have attempted to devise a comprehensive, systematic, and integrated approach to the evaluation, classification, and study of persons with CFS and other fatiguing illnesses. The article proposes a conceptual framework and a set of guidelines for conducting CFS studies. Included among the guidelines are recommendations for the clinical evaluation of fatigued persons, and a strategy for subgrouping fatigued persons for scientific investigations."

Studies

CDC has begun a study of CFS and similar illnesses in 13 counties in Georgia. To conduct the study, interviewers are telephoning a randomly selected sample of 17,000 households, interviewers begin by asking the selected households a short set of questions to identify household members who may have CFS and similar illnesses.
